How to Change Your Minecraft Server’s View Distance

View distance controls how far players can see in-game by setting the number of chunks that load around each player. A chunk is a 16x16 block section of the world, and increasing this value makes the world feel more immersive. But it’s also important to understand that increased view distance demands more from your server’s CPU and RAM. Lowering view distance can help reduce lag, especially if you're running with limited resources or a lot of players.

**Step 1: Log in**

Head to your __Nexus Hosting Account__ and log in.

**Step 2: Select the Server**

Once on the dashboard, find and select your intended Minecraft server.

**Step 3: Stop the Server**

Before making any changes, stop the server to avoid potential data issues. On the Terminal page, click the red Stop button.

**Step 4: Open server.properties**

Now, click Files in the sidebar. Locate and select the server.properties file from the list.

**Step 5: Modify View Distance**

Then scroll down until you find the line view-distance=10 (or whatever your current setting shows). Change it to any number between 3 and 32, but be cognizant of your server’s ability to handle the increased load before setting it too high.

Click Save Content when you are finished.

**Step 6: Restart the Server**

You can now restart your server, clicking the green Start button on the Terminal page. Then log into Minecraft and take a look at the new view distance!
