How to Set a Custom Server Icon for Your Minecraft Server

Your server icon is the image that shows up next to your server’s name in the Minecraft multiplayer server list. It’s a small visual detail, but it helps your server stand out and look more polished – especially if you're hosting for a community or want to make a good first impression.

Adding or changing the server icon is simple, but it requires the file to meet specific formatting rules.

Step 1: Create or Prepare Your Icon

Before uploading, make sure your image meets these exact requirements:

File format: .png

Dimensions: 64x64 pixels

Filename: server-icon.png (must be named exactly like this)

You can resize and convert your image using free tools like ezgif.com or an image editor like GIMP or Photoshop.

Step 2: Log in

Log in to your Nexus Hosting Account.

Step 3: Select the Server

Once on the dashboard, find and select your intended Minecraft server.

Step 4: Stop the Server

Before making any changes, stop the server to avoid potential data issues. On the Terminal page, click the red Stop button.

Step 5: Upload the Icon

Navigate to the File Manager by clicking Files in the sidebar. Now, you’ll upload your server-icon.png file directly into the main directory (same location as server.properties, logs, and world folders).

Simply click the Upload button in the upper right corner.

Locate and upload your custom server icon file. Once the upload is complete, you should see server-icon.png listed in the root directory alongside your main server files.

Step 6: Restart the Server

You can now restart your server, clicking the green Start button on the Terminal page.
