How to Set the World Spawn Radius on Your Minecraft Server

The spawn radius controls how many blocks around the world spawn point are protected from player interactions. By default, Minecraft prevents non-OP players from breaking or placing blocks in this area.

This is designed to keep the spawn area safe from griefing or accidental edits, especially on public servers. However, it can also get in the way if you're trying to build a welcome hub, spawn town, or tutorial zone that players should be able to interact with. Adjusting the radius lets you open up the area for creative builds or lock it down entirely to prevent unwanted changes (like after a welcome hub has been completed.

**Step 1: Log in**

Log in to your __Nexus Hosting Account__.

**Step 2: Select the Server**

Once on the dashboard, find and select your intended Minecraft server.

**Step 3: Stop the Server**

Before making any changes, stop the server to avoid potential data issues. On the Terminal page, click the red Stop button.

**Step 4:** Make Changes to Spawn Protection

From your server’s directory, select the server.properties file. It controls many key server settings. Then find the line that reads spawn-protection=16

The number represents the radius (in blocks) around the world spawn point where players can't build or break blocks unless they are OP.

Example values:

spawn-protection=5 allows a small protection zone.
spawn-protection=0 removes all spawn protection.
spawn-protection=25 allows a large protection zone.

Once you’ve adjusted the value to your needs, click Save Content.

**Step 6:** Restart Server

For the changes to take effect, you need to restart your server. Select the Terminal button from the sidebar and then click the yellow Restart button on the right side.
