How to Use FTP to Manage Your Minecraft Server Files

FTP (File Transfer Protocol) and SFTP (Secure File Transfer Protocol) provide a simple, direct way to access and manage your Minecraft server's files. Instead of relying solely on your hosting provider's built-in file manager, FTP and SFTP allow you to connect directly to your server from your local computer using a dedicated client.

By using FTP or SFTP, you can efficiently upload new Minecraft worlds, install mods and plugins, edit server configuration files, and create timely backups – all without logging onto your Nexus hosting account. It’s direct, fast access to everything you need to manage your Minecraft server.

Step 1:

Log in to your Nexus Hosting Account.

Step 2:

Once on the dashboard, find and select your intended Minecraft server.

Step 3:

Click on the Settings button located in the sidebar.

Step 4:

In the SFTP Details section, you’ll find your server address and username, which you’ll need if you want to manually connect your server to an FTP/SFTP service. But we recommend you first install your preferred FTP/SFTP application (such as WinSCP or Filezilla) and then click the Launch SFTP button from the Nexus Hosting dashboard.

This action will automatically detect any FTP/SFTP application installed on your computer and prompt you to launch it. For this guide, we're demonstrating with WinSCP.

Step 6:

After your FTP/SFTP application opens, it will initiate a connection and prompt for authentication. Enter your Nexus Hosting account password and click OK.

Step 7:

Every FTP/SFTP service is a bit different, but in most cases, it will display two panes: your local files (your computer) on the left and your server's files on the right. You can now easily manage your files by dragging and dropping them directly between your computer and your Minecraft server.
