How to Clear Weather or Set Permanent Weather on Your Minecraft Server

Rain can be nice once in a while, but when you're in the middle of building, filming, or exploring, it often gets in the way. If you’d rather keep the skies clear or want to control exactly what the weather’s doing, Minecraft gives you a few simple commands to make it happen.

Here are the weather types you’ll encounter in Minecraft:

Clear – Bright skies and no weather effects. Peaceful and perfect for building.
Rain – Overcast with light rain. Hostile mobs can spawn, even during the day.
Thunderstorm – Heavier rain with thunder and lightning. Lightning can start fires or charge creepers.

You can switch between these manually or freeze the weather in place.

You’ll need OP permissions to run weather-related commands. If you haven’t done that yet, please check out our guide on How to Make a Player an OP in Minecraft.

**Step 1: Log in**

Head to your __Nexus Hosting Account__ and log in.

**Step 2: Select the Server**

Once on the dashboard, find and select your intended Minecraft server.

**Step 3: Clear or Freeze the Weather**

On the Terminal page, enter one of the following commands:

To clear the current weather: weather clear
To enable standard rain: weather rain
To start a thunderstorm: weather thunder
To stop future weather changes: gamerule doWeatherCycle false

If you prefer using in-game commands, you can type these directly into chat if you have OP access.

And if you ever want to bring the natural weather cycle back, just reverse the command with gamerule doWeatherCycle true.
